ZENON PARK STUDENT WINNER IN FARM SAFETY POSTER CONTEST

Released on November 16, 2000

Aimée Thesen, an 11-year-old grade five student at École Zenon Park School, is

a winner in this year's Saskatchewan Labour Farm Safety Poster Contest. She is

one of 13 winners selected from more than 3000 entries from Saskatchewan

schools.

Aimée's livestock safety poster, which warns that "Cows with baby calves are

dangerous!" is featured along with the other first prize winning posters in the

2001 Farm Safety Calendar being released at Agribition next week.

The poster contest and calendar are Saskatchewan Labour initiatives designed to

help educate students and their families about farm safety.

"Agriculture is one of the most hazardous occupations in Saskatchewan," Labour

Minister Joanne Crofford said. "The poster contest and calendar are part of

our efforts to educate young people about the importance of safety, so they

stay safe now and become safe farmers in the future."

Crofford congratulates the winners and all the students who participated in the

contest. "Participation is the key to achieving our most important goal –

preventing accidents on the farm."

The contest was open to all Saskatchewan students from kindergarten to grade

nine. The grand prize winner, 15-year-old Tawnie Wolter of Radville, was

awarded $100. The first prize winners in each category were awarded $50 and

the second prize winners were awarded $25. All winning artwork will soon be

available for viewing on the Saskatchewan Labour website (www.labour.gov.sk.ca).
