MARTENSVILLE SUPPLIER EARNS SASKPOWER AWARD

Released on November 14, 2000

A Martensville company is being recognized by SaskPower for supplying the

corporation with quality products at a competitive price since 1986.

Martensville Bldg. & Home Supply was awarded the SaskPower Power of Business

award today in Martensville. SaskPower introduced the award last year to

recognize the important role local firms play in the corporation's success and

in the Saskatchewan economy.

Crown Investments Corporation Minister John Nilson was on hand at the company's

manufacturing plant to present the award to owner and president Brian Kellett.

"SaskPower has a long history of supporting local Saskatchewan businesses,"

Nilson said. "Martensville Bldg. & Home Supply has provided the corporation

with world-class services and products at an excellent price for many years."

Since the company's inception more than 14 years ago, Martensville Bldg. & Home

Supply has manufactured more than 160,000 laminated wooden cross-arms for

SaskPower's power poles. The supplier also developed specialized quality

assurance equipment to ensure the product meets SaskPower's specifications and

standards.

"When SaskPower purchases products from local suppliers in Saskatchewan, it

provides employment to people who live in that area and that's a very positive

thing," Kellett said. "We've received all kinds of support from SaskPower to

help us manufacture these components in the province and it's been great for us

and our community."

SaskPower buys more than 80 per cent of its purchases from local firms, on

average. Over the last 15 years, the corporation has purchased over $3.2

billion in goods and services from Saskatchewan suppliers.

Besides the manufacturing division of Martensville Bldg. & Home Supply, it

includes a store selling building products and hardware. The company employs

eight people.

Trans Canada Machining of Herbert and GP Fiberglass Ltd. of Melfort also

received a SaskPower Power of Business award this fall. In 1999, firms

including Eastern Air Supplies of Canora, Alcatel's Weyburn Plant, Partners

Technologies Incorporated of Regina and CIM of Humboldt were honoured.
