LLOYDMINSTER CAREER AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES CENTRE GRAND OPENING

Released on May 19, 2000

Lloydminster and area residents now have a single location where they can get

help planning a career, improving their education or job skills, finding a job

or filling a job vacancy.

The Lloydminster Career and Employment Services Centre is unique in combining

the programs and services of the governments of Canada, Saskatchewan and

Alberta.

"Saskatchewan is pleased to participate in this partnership with the federal

and Alberta governments," Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training

Minister Glenn Hagel said. "We are working together to provide comprehensive

career and employment services to residents of Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Through these federal-provincial Career and Employment Services offices in

every region of the province, all Saskatchewan people have one-stop access to

relevant training and employment programs and services."

"Through the co-operation of the three governments, all residents of

Lloydminster can access the programs and services they need," Human Resources

Development Canada Minister Jane Stewart said. "It demonstrates governments

can work together to address our shared goal of helping unemployed Canadians

find work."

"By joining forces with the federal and Saskatchewan governments, we will be

able to eliminate overlap and duplication, offering better services to

Albertans and additional savings to taxpayers," Alberta Human Resources and

Employment Minister Clint Dunford said.

Under the two federal/provincial agreements, the Governments of Saskatchewan

and Alberta assumed responsibility to provide career and employment programs to

Employment Insurance (EI) clients. The Government of Canada is a funding

partner for these programs and services through the EI Account. The agreements

build on the vision and development of a sector-wide post-secondary education

and skills training strategy to ensure all clients have access to flexible,

relevant, quality training and employment services.

The Lloydminster location offers a variety of resources, including written and

electronic materials on resume writing and occupations; counsellor-assisted

career planning; and computerized services, such as CD ROM software and videos.

Local access to a variety of information related to apprenticeship,

JobStart/Future Skills and other skills training and employment programs, basic

education, literacy and income support programs for learners is also available.
