PROFITS UP AT CASINO REGINA

Released on March 22, 2000

Profits are up at Casino Regina and that's good news for the local economy.

The province has released third quarter results for Casino Regina that show net

profits are up 32 per cent over last year. For the period April 1st to

December 31, 1999, Casino Regina had a net income of $15.7 million, up from

$11.9 million last year.

"We are very proud that Casino Regina's success helps boost our local economy

and plays such a significant role in the local and provincial economy," Casino

Regina President and CEO Joe van Koeverden said.

Regina's Regional Economic Development Authority (RREDA) says Casino Regina has

had a tremendous impact on the hospitality, retail and service sectors in the

Queen City.

"Casino Regina employs close to 600 people, with an annual payroll of close to

$13 million," RREDA President and Chief Operating Officer Marty Klyne said.

"Local spending for services and products like computer systems support,

entertainment, professional services, dry cleaning and janitorial services

contribute another $5 million to the region.

"Casino Regina should also be commended for their efforts to open up jobs for

Aboriginal people. More than 50 per cent of the jobs at Casino Regina are

filled by Aboriginal people," Klyne said.

"All of Casino Regina's profits stay in the province and go back to

Saskatchewan communities and help benefit children, youth and families," van

Koeverden said.
