A new garment manufacturing plant officially opened its doors in Saskatoon
today.
AGM-Sask Ltd. purchased Nygard International's building and equipment in
Saskatoon earlier this year, officially taking over operations on February 1.
AGM retained all 76 existing employees and will be doubling the number of staff
by year-end to meet production needs.
"AGM saw Saskatchewan as an excellent expansion location for its business,"
Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon said. "Our
investments in training and technology are attracting more and more companies
like AGM to Saskatchewan, and creating jobs for Saskatchewan people."
"We are excited and completely committed to expanding our labour force and
plant capacity to meet the ongoing demands of AGM's clientele in the Eastern
Canadian and US market," AGM President Uwe Schiffke said.
AGM is an expansion plant of Calgary-based Alberta Garment Manufacturing Co.
Ltd. It produces restaurant uniforms, work wear and corporate uniforms as well
as private label business and casual wear. Among its Canadian clientele are
Mark's Work Wearhouse, Air Canada, Canada Safeway and Levi Strauss & Company.
The clothing manufactured in Saskatchewan will mainly be for the company's
increased share of the retail export market in the United States.
