Health Canada has approved Saskatchewan's request for emergency registration of
the fungicide Bravo Ultrex to control fungal disease in the province's pulse
crops.
The province applied for emergency registration of Bravo Ultrex to the Pest
Management Regulatory Agency of Health Canada because supplies of the
registered fungicide Bravo 500 are limited and may be insufficient to protect
the province's 4.8 million acres of pulse crops.
Fungal diseases produce lesions on stems that can kill chickpea, lentil and
field pea plants and directly impact yields. Even lesions on leaves and pods
reduce yields and quality.
"I am pleased that Health Canada has approved the province's recent request for
an emergency registration," Agriculture and Food Minister Clay Serby said.
"This gives producers the means to protect their crops from potential loss of
yield and quality."
Higher than normal rainfall during June and July has caused ascochyta blight
and anthracnose to develop in pulse crops, especially ascochyta blight on
chickpea.
