EDUCATORS HONOURED BY SCN

David Lawlor of the University of Regina has been named the winner of the Garth

Ferguson Award for Excellence in Televised Teaching. Also honoured for his

teaching at-a-distance is Professor Solomon Ratt of the Saskatchewan Indian

Federated College (SIFC).



David Lawlor teaches French language classes through the University of Regina's

Off-Campus Credit Programs Unit. Professor Solomon Ratt teaches Cree language

classes through the SIFC. Both educators have been innovative in their use of

technology to teach languages to students across Saskatchewan.



SCN's distance education training network reaches over 150 Saskatchewan

communities. It carries classes from the province's major post-secondary

institutions to students in all parts of the province.



The Garth Ferguson Award for Excellence in Televised Teaching was named for

SCN's former Director of Finance and Human Resources, Garth Ferguson. Ferguson

passed away in June, 1997.
