GRAVEL HAUL IN MEADOW LAKE REGION

Released on November 30, 1999

Travellers in the Meadow Lake area should be watching out for large trucks

hauling gravel from December 1st until early January.

About 30 trucks will be hauling over 110,000 tonnes of gravel over several

local highways, including sections on Highways 4, 55, 304 and 904. Most of the

gravel will be used for a section of Highway No. 304, between Meadow Lake and

Makwa, which will be surfaced beginning in spring of 2000. The $2.5 million

project to surface 18 km of Highway 304 has been awarded to Carmacks

Enterprises Ltd.

Drivers should pay special attention to the intersection of a busy local

municipal road and Airport Road located 10 km west of Meadow Lake. At this

location, there will be a high number of truck crossings each day.

"The gravel haul will be over mainly alternate routes with low traffic volumes

to cause the least traffic disruption possible," Highways and Transportation

Minister Maynard Sonntag says. "We want travellers in the area to be aware of

this activity to avoid any potential accidents."
