SASKTEL CONTINUES ITS COMMITMENT TO WEYBURN, ESTEVAN AND AREA
Released on June 9, 1999
Deputy Premier and Crown Investments Corporation Minister Dwain
Lingenfelter today announced about $7 million will be invested in
SaskTel network improvements in and around Weyburn and Estevan. This
investment is part of SaskTel's commitment to finance more than
$100 million in provincial network improvements this year.
"Through this year's investment, SaskTel can ensure that all customers
in Weyburn, Estevan and surrounding communities receive the most
dependable, high-quality services in this province," Lingenfelter
said. "For the past 90 years, SaskTel has provided all of its
customers with the best possible telecommunications access in
Saskatchewan. This year's investment will continue SaskTel's
commitment to serving this province."
One of the projects for the Weyburn and Estevan district involves a
52 km installation of new fibre between Oxbow, Glen Ewen and Carnduff.
SaskTel will also upgrade electronic equipment between Stoughton,
Creelman and Fillmore and will convert some concentrators around
Estevan, Weyburn and Midale. These improvements will create
additional switch capacity to handle more calls.
"SaskTel's ongoing commitment to our network helps us bring
leading-edge communications services such as the Internet,
SmartTouchTM features and multimedia systems to our Weyburn and
Estevan customers - and other customers around the province,"
