PREMIER THANKS SHILLINGTON FOR SERVICE

Released on July 13, 1999

Premier Roy Romanow today thanked Ned Shillington for his service to

the province of Saskatchewan.

The premier was responding to the announcement that Mr. Shillington

will be resigning as a Member of the Legislative Assembly effective

immediately.

"Ned leaves with my most profound gratitude and respect, for having

devoted 24 years to principled and dedicated public service as an

MLA, a Cabinet minister and in Opposition," Romanow said.

Elected in 1975, Shillington was re-elected five times and served as

minister in the portfolios of Co-operatives, Education, Culture and

Youth in the Cabinet of Alan Blakeney. In the Romanow Cabinet,

Shillington served as minister in the portfolios of Crown Investments

Corporation, Finance, Labour, Justice and Attorney-General,

Intergovernmental Affairs, Provincial Secretary and Deputy Government

House Leader.

"I think that what really stands out is the dedication Ned showed to

his constituents, setting the highest possible standard as a model

MLA.

"Ned will now continue his life's journey, with its change and

movement, and he will travel this new road with the same

determination, the same energy, the same commitment, that made

him such an effective public servant.

"As he does, he will take with him my very best wishes and my

profound gratitude for his contributions to our government and to

our province," Romanow said.
