Associate Health Minister Judy Junor today called on Nipawin and area
business leaders to continue playing a role in the many positive
developments shaping the future of health services.
Speaking at a Nipawin Chamber of Commerce dinner, Junor said the
North-East Health District has built a strong foundation for health
services in the community and she outlined more progressive steps to
come.
"There are many new or expanded services available to people in the
North-East communities," Junor said. "CAT scans are now available in
Prince Albert, there are visiting specialists in areas such as urology
and pediatrics, expanded home care and community-based services like
family asthma clinics and diabetes education that contribute to
healthier lives."
Junor praised the North-East Health District for its leading role in
one of the province's telehealth pilot projects. "Telehealth will let
people from Cumberland House consult with your doctors here, without
having to make the long trip. I can see a day where a patient for
example a heart patient can sit with his doctor in Nipawin and talk
directly with a cardiologist in Saskatoon. They can see and hear each
other and even share the results of an electrocardiogram on the
computer screen all through technology."
Junor said that innovations like telehealth and investments like
new MRI services are part of the government's commitment to build
a strong health system for the future.
"We are providing quality care in this province," Junor said.
"On any given day, 35,000 people are using health services in
Saskatchewan. Our challenge is to maintain into the future the
quality of services that people expect to see."
Junor said that action on waiting lists, improvements to the
College of Medicine and continued dialogue with front-line
workers would all be necessary to keep the system moving ahead at
the provincial level. She asked chamber members to take an
active role in setting priorities at the local level, by working
with the health district.
