OPENING OF HUDSON BAY HEALTH CARE FACILITY

Released on January 20, 1999

Andy Renaud, MLA for Carrot River Valley, on behalf of Health Minister

Pat Atkinson, today attended the official opening of the Hudson Bay

Health Care Facility, which includes a special care home addition to

the renovated Hudson Bay Hospital.

The successful expansion of health services in the community means

residents have access to long term care, acute care, respite care, and

adult day care programming in one facility. Other services offered in

the integrated facility include community therapy, home care, public

health nursing and mental health services.

"By working in partnership the health district, municipalities,

volunteers and government have assured that quality health services

are available to Hudson Bay and area residents close to home, under

one roof, 24-hours-a-day," Renaud said.

The health care facility was made possible by a local community

contribution of $1.08 million and $1.6 million in funding from the

provincial government.

"The Pasquia District Health Board is extremely pleased with the new

community health care facility and wishes to acknowledge the support

of the community and all staff in making the transition to the new

facility a smooth process," Pasquia Health District Board Chair Carol

Hayward said.

Renaud also commended health workers at the facility for their

hard work and dedication in providing for the health needs of

area residents.

The local funding for the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility is the

result of efforts by the Town of Hudson Bay, Rural Municipality

of Hudson Bay #394 and several service clubs, organizations and

interested individuals.
