Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon today
congratulated the Midwest REDA for its success in generating and
promoting economic growth and job creation in the Biggar, Perdue,
Unity and Plenty areas.
"The Midwest REDA plays an important role in its region's economic
development initiatives," MacKinnon said. "Successes include
developing a regional tourism strategy, with an accompanying directory
and brochure, that will be an invaluable tool for marketing the
Midwest area."
MacKinnon used the occasion of the first Regional Economic Development
Authority (REDA) Week in Saskatchewan, February 14 to 20, to commend
the local organization for its successful initiatives.
"Residents and communities within this region have been extremely
successful in their diversification projects," said Evan Simpson, REDA
Chairperson. "Grain terminals, pig barns, a ski hill and individual
business successes are fine examples of what people in rural
Saskatchewan have accomplished. The board members and staff of the
Midwest REDA are proud to be associated with your success.
Congratulations!"
The Midwest REDA is one of 27 in Saskatchewan providing business
development service to their communities and regions. REDAs have
assisted in community business projects that range from youth
employment initiatives to tourism-related projects, to
feasibility studies and recreational facilities.
REDAs are grassroots organizations, bringing together business,
co-operatives and local governments to pool their organizational,
professional and financial resources in order to encourage job
creation and investment in the region.
"REDAs have done an outstanding job of generating economic growth
and jobs in communities throughout Saskatchewan," MacKinnon said.
"They have succeeded because they know the needs of their
communities and the best direction to follow for the future."
