PAVING ANNOUNCED ON HIGHWAY 1 BETWEEN MOOSOMIN AND WHITEWOOD

Released on February 9, 1999

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley today announced a

26.6 km paving project between Moosomin and Whitewood on Trans Canada

Highway 1.

"This paving project will use an estimated 30 jobs in its completion

and is valued at $2.8 million," Bradley said.

The 26.6 km paving project will take place on Trans Canada Highway 1

through the town of Moosomin from 1.8 km east of the Junction of

Highways 1 and 8 to 200 metres east and from 302 metres east of the

Red Jacket Access to 2 km east of the Burrow Access. The $2.8 million

project cost includes department-supplied materials and services.

Ramco Paving Ltd. of Regina was awarded the contract as the lowest of

nine bidders. Crushing and hauling of gravel in preparation for the

project started in early February. The paving project will start on

the road in mid June and is planned for completion by early September

1999.

"This project is part of the $44.7 million winter tender schedule

announced last November," Bradley said. "By tendering and awarding

the project now, we can ensure completion this construction season.

Paving projects like this on our Trans Canada Highway will improve the

riding comfort of travellers."
