SPIRITWOOD TO PLAN HOSPITAL, CARE HOME LINK

The Parkland Health District is one step closer today to consolidating and

linking the Spiritwood Hospital with the Idylwild Lodge in Spiritwood.



The project would involve new construction and renovations to existing

facilities to consolidate acute care, long term care, community-based and

medical clinic services at one site.



Health Minister Pat Atkinson gave the district approval to plan the project in

the 1999-2000 fiscal year and advised district representatives to work with

Saskatchewan Health officials to define the project's final scope and cost.



"Planning is an essential step in the development of any large-scale project,"

Atkinson said. "This approval for planning is our commitment to work with the

district to improve co-ordination of health services."



Province-wide, Saskatchewan Health will spend $37.8 million on capital projects

this year. The province pays 65 per cent of approved project costs, which are

determined as plans are finalized.
