SASKTEL IMPROVES PHONE SYSTEM

Released on August 16, 1999

SaskTel is investing about $11 million in network improvements in and around

Prince Albert. This investment is part of SaskTel's commitment to finance more

than $100 million in provincial network improvements this year.

"Through this year's investment, SaskTel can ensure that all customers in

Prince Albert and surrounding communities receive the most dependable, high-

quality services in this province," Deputy Premier and Crown Investments

Corporation Minister Dwain Lingenfelter said. "For the past 90 years, SaskTel

has provided all of its customers with the best possible telecommunications

access in Saskatchewan. This year's investment will continue SaskTel's

commitment to serving this province."

SaskTel will meet its customers' demands for advanced voice and data services

through a number of projects. One project involves an 18 kilometre

installation of new fibre between St. Louis and Domremy, and between

Christopher Lake and Emma Lake. SaskTel will also install some additional

concentrators (remote, mini-switches) north of the Prince Albert Airport and in

the Shellbrook exchange.

"SaskTel's ongoing commitment to our network helps us bring leading-edge

communications services such as the Internet, SmartTouchTM features and

multimedia systems to our Prince Albert customers – as well as other customers

around the province," said Al Yam, SaskTel General Manager of Network Planning,

Provisioning and Access. "We're proud of this achievement, and look forward to

offering state-of-the art services to Saskatchewan as we enter the next

millennium."

SaskTel is the leading full service communications company in Saskatchewan,

providing voice, data, Internet, text and messaging services over a fiber optic-

based, fully digital network, as well as cellular, paging, wireless data and

FleetNet 800 service through its SaskTel Mobility division.
