YORKTON HOSPITAL, CARE HOME PLAN UPGRADE

Released on August 10, 1999

The East Central Health District got the okay today for several

projects at the Yorkton Regional Hospital that will improve the safety

and comfort of patients.

Health Minister Pat Atkinson gave approval-in-principle to district

plans to re-roof several areas of the hospital and improve the air

exchange in rooms where anaesthetic gases are administered. She also

gave approval-in-principle for renovations to the hospital to add a

fourth satellite hemodialysis station.

The district also got the go-ahead to replace a fire alarm system and

fire sprinklers at the Yorkton Nursing Home. These changes are in

line with changes to the fire safety code.

"These types of renovation projects and safety upgrades are a great

opportunity for us to re-invest in facilities that are a valued

part of the community," Minister Atkinson said.

Province-wide, Saskatchewan Health will spend $37.8 million on capital

projects this year. For most projects, the province pays 65 per cent

of approved costs, which are determined as plans are finalized.

Capital projects can include construction of new facilities, urgent

fire safety upgrades, occupational health and safety corrections,

energy management initiatives, maintenance work and other

building renovations.
