SGI DONATES VEHICLE TO PRINCE ALBERT POLICE SERVICE

Released on April 29, 1999

Deputy Premier and Crown Investments Corporation Minister

Dwain Lingenfelter today announced SGI CANADA is donating a salvage

vehicle to the Prince Albert Police Service. The vehicle will be used

as an unmarked car to aid police in traffic enforcement.

"SGI values its partnership with Saskatchewan police," Lingenfelter

said, as he presented the keys to the vehicle to the Prince Albert

Police Service. "SGI does what it can to assist police in their

traffic enforcement efforts. This vehicle will help the Prince Albert

Police Service target specific areas."

"The vehicle will be put to good use," said Constable Brent Kalinowski

of the Prince Albert Police Service. "Our main focus will continue to

be on the enforcement of school zone speed limits. An unmarked

vehicle is a valuable tool in monitoring whether drivers are following

the lower speed limits in school zones."

The vehicle will also be used in other targeted programs, including

the disqualified driver program.

"There are between 2,800 and 3,000 disqualified drivers in the Prince

Albert area alone," Kalinowski said. "Using an unmarked vehicle will

help police keep a discreet watch on people who shouldn't be driving."

The donation of this vehicle is another example of SGI's

partnership with Saskatchewan police. SGI and police from around

the province meet twice a year as part of the Selective Traffic

Safety Enforcement Program (STEP). Through STEP, police have

agreed to targeted enforcement of drinking and driving and

high-risk enforcement through the coming year.

"SGI and police work together to educate the public on traffic

safety issues and the steps they can take to protect themselves

and their families," Lingenfelter said. "Saskatchewan police

reinforce those messages through stop-checks and their regular

presence around the province."
