CASINO FUNDS SUPPORT YOUTH IN HODGEVILLE, VANGUARD AND HERBERT

Released on April 22, 1999

Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob

announced today that community groups in Hodgeville, Vanguard and

Herbert received $15,000 from casino profits through the Associated

Entities Fund.

"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a

portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people,"

Teichrob said. "Since the beginning of 1997 more than $3 million in

casino profits have been distributed throughout Saskatchewan for

programs that support children, youth and families."

The Hodgeville and District Community Action Team received $9,000

toward establishing a facility to provide a constructive and healthy

environment for youth in the area. Students will work as part of the

team developing the project, and will be responsible for organizing

and planning the centre's ongoing education and leisure activities and

help to maintain the facility.

The C.H. Peart High School in Vanguard received $1,000 toward a

community outreach program to help students make healthy choices about

gaming by offering workshops, training sessions and discussion and

bear-pit sessions.

The Herbert and Central Butte Lions Clubs and the Herbert and

Prairie West School Divisions, received $5,000 toward introducing

the Lions Quest Skills for Growing and Skills for Adolescents

Program to schools in the area. This problem solving, drug

awareness program helps young people develop positive social

behaviour such as self-discipline, responsibility, good judgement

and the ability to get along with others. The program seeks

commitments from youth to lead drug-free lives.

The Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits

from Casino Regina, the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford,

the Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert and the Painted Hand

Casino in Yorkton.
