Economic and Co-operative Development Minister Janice MacKinnon said
the construction of a new 60-room motor hotel in Moose Jaw is another
signal of the city's strong and diversifying economy.
MacKinnon participated today in a sod-turning for the Comfort Inn, a
$2.5 million development scheduled for completion in April, 1999.
Moose Jaw Mayor Ray Boughen was also involved in the sod-turning,
along with businessmen Jim Kuntz, Orest Wasylyk and Andy Sheppard,
three of the principal investors in the project.
"This is the third hotel expansion project in Moose Jaw this year,"
MacKinnon said. "It speaks volumes about the city's growing tourism
industry and also about the level of business confidence in Moose Jaw
as a result of such major developments as the NATO Flying Training in
Canada (NFTC) Program."
MacKinnon represented Saskatchewan at a NFTC ceremony in Farnborough,
England earlier this month in which Denmark became the first country
committing to send pilots to Moose Jaw and other prairie centres for
training.
"The Comfort Inn project became a reality for us when we saw the
amount of business we were getting at one of our other
properties," investor Jim Kuntz said. "When the overflow from
our other hotel started going to Regina, we knew there was a need
for more hotel space in the city."
Kuntz, Wasylyk and Sheppard are also investors in the Super 8
Motel which recently completed a 15-room expansion.
