FOUR LANING PROJECT BETWEEN SASKATOON AND MARTENSVILLE COMPLETE

Released on September 3, 1998

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley today announced the

official opening of the four laning of Highway Nos. 11 and 12 from

71st Street in Saskatoon to the CNR crossing north of Martensville.

"This four laning project means better traffic flow and continued

growth for the town of Martensville, the City of Saskatoon and the

R.M. of Corman Park," Bradley said.

The 13.9 km project, worth $9.3 million began with grading in 1997,

while paving began in June 1998. In addition, $400,000 is being spent

to resurface the existing roadway which will become the new northbound

lane. Additional work to the shoulders of the southbound lanes and

repaving of the northbound lanes of the highway will continue until

late October. Widening has also begun at the overpass near Saskatoon

on Highway No. 12 over Highway No. 11 and will be completed in

October.

"An estimated 7,300 vehicles travel between Saskatoon and Martensville

every day," Bradley said. "The expansion of this link is a major

achievement providing a safer and more efficient transportation

system. Saskatchewan is committed to twinning our major highway

links."
