Released on November 27, 1998
Labour Minister Joanne Crofford today announced that the Saskatchewan
minimum wage will increase by 40 cents per hour to $6.00, effective
January 1, 1999.
"Increasing the minimum wage will help our lowest paid members of the
work force," Crofford said. "Most other workers, whether or not they
are covered by collective agreements, generally receive some form of
regular pay increase. It's time to provide a pay increase to the
lowest paid, and in many cases, hardest working people in our economy.
"The Government of Saskatchewan is sympathetic to the economic demands
placed on low-income earning families. This increase will put
additional money into their hands and will also benefit the economy as
a whole by increasing the spending power of thousands of Saskatchewan
people."
