NORTHERN REVENUE SHARING TRUST ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT BOARD NAMED

Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob today

announced the eight members who will make up the Management Board of

the Northern Revenue Sharing Trust Account (NRSTA).



"The appointment of this Management Board will give northerners input

into operations of the trust account which provides operating and

capital grants to two towns, 13 villages, 10 hamlets and 12

settlements for the provision of municipal services," Teichrob said.



The board members are: Doug Gailey, administrator, La Loche; Norman

Nateweyes, Mayor of Sandy Bay and co-chair of New North; Gordon Stomp,

Mayor, Air Ronge; Claire Larocque, Chairperson, Camsell Portage; John

Wade, administrator, La Ronge; Yvonne Daigneault, Councillor, Ile a la

Crosse; Rita Maurice, clerk, Michel Village; and Beverly Wheeler,

administrator, Creighton.



The NRSTA Management Board will make recommendations to the Municipal

Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister on the allocation of northern

revenue sharing grants and northern capital grants to be made from the

municipal revenue sharing account. In addition the board can

recommend changes to The Northern Municipalities Act or regulations

that relate to the revenue sharing account.



The NRSTA is funded from northern municipal property taxes, lease

fees, sales proceeds and revenues from the provincial general

revenue fund.



In response to the request of northern municipal leaders, The

Northern Municipalities Act was amended during the last session

of the legislature to provide for the establishment of the

Management Board.



The board will meet three or four times yearly.
