Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob today
announced the eight members who will make up the Management Board of
the Northern Revenue Sharing Trust Account (NRSTA).
"The appointment of this Management Board will give northerners input
into operations of the trust account which provides operating and
capital grants to two towns, 13 villages, 10 hamlets and 12
settlements for the provision of municipal services," Teichrob said.
The board members are: Doug Gailey, administrator, La Loche; Norman
Nateweyes, Mayor of Sandy Bay and co-chair of New North; Gordon Stomp,
Mayor, Air Ronge; Claire Larocque, Chairperson, Camsell Portage; John
Wade, administrator, La Ronge; Yvonne Daigneault, Councillor, Ile a la
Crosse; Rita Maurice, clerk, Michel Village; and Beverly Wheeler,
administrator, Creighton.
The NRSTA Management Board will make recommendations to the Municipal
Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister on the allocation of northern
revenue sharing grants and northern capital grants to be made from the
municipal revenue sharing account. In addition the board can
recommend changes to The Northern Municipalities Act or regulations
that relate to the revenue sharing account.
The NRSTA is funded from northern municipal property taxes, lease
fees, sales proceeds and revenues from the provincial general
revenue fund.
In response to the request of northern municipal leaders, The
Northern Municipalities Act was amended during the last session
of the legislature to provide for the establishment of the
Management Board.
The board will meet three or four times yearly.
