TANISKISHAYINEW INQUEST APRIL 2

Released on March 16, 1998

Chief Coroner Dr. John Nyssen today announced that an inquest into the

death of Priscilla Taniskishayinew will be held April 2, 1998 in

Prince Albert.



Taniskishayinew, 20, died at Kelvington Hospital in Kelvington. Prior

to her death, Taniskishayinew was an inmate at the Pine Grove

Correctional Centre at Prince Albert.



On February 2, 1997 Taniskishayinew was found in her cell requiring

medical treatment. Treatment was administered at Victoria Hospital in

Prince Albert and Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. She was

then transferred to her home community of Kelvington, where she died

on February 13, 1997.



Section 9 of The Coroners Act requires an inquest to be held when an

inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lockup or correctional facility.



The inquest will be held April 2,1998 at Courtroom 3, McIntosh Mall,

800 Central Avenue, Prince Albert. The presiding coroner will be Mr.

R.E.G. Smith.
