CASINO FUNDS TO HELP ESTEVAN AND AREA CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Released on March 3, 1998

Estevan MLA Larry Ward, on behalf of Municipal Government Minister

Carol Teichrob, today presented the Violence Intervention Program with

$25,240 in casino profits through the Associated Entities Fund for a

Families First project.

"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a

portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people,"

Ward said. "Since 1997 more than $1 million in casino profits have

been distributed, throughout Saskatchewan, for programs that support

children, youth and families."

The Families First project will provide parenting education to

complement the violence prevention education currently provided by the

Violence Intervention Program. The project will also extend the

program to reach families living around the community of Estevan.

The Violence Intervention Program works with health professionals to

conduct presentations on the topics of child abuse, parenting and

preventing family violence to schools and community groups.

The Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from

Casino Regina; the Gold Eagle Casino, North Battleford; the Northern

Lights Casino, Prince Albert; and the Painted Hand Casino, Yorkton.

Ward said the Associated Entities Fund provides grants to

community organizations for programs and services that support

children, youth and families.
