CASINO FUNDS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO EIGHT YORKTON AREA COMMUNITY GROUPS

ealth Minister Clay Serby, on behalf of Municipal Government Minister

Carol Teichrob, today announced that eight Yorkton area community

groups have received $30,000 in casino profits through the Associated

Entities Fund.



The grants will assist in funding summer activities for young people.



"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a

portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people,"

Serby said. "Since the beginning of 1997 more than $2 million in

casino profits have been distributed throughout Saskatchewan for

programs that support children, youth and families."



Yorkton Women in Need - Rural Outreach program received $3,300 for

GAMES - Gaining Awareness, Making Everyone Safe. The program provides

awareness and education to youth regarding issues of violence.



Boys and Girls Club of Yorkton, along with Big Brothers and Big

Sisters, received $4,500 for a three-day summer camp. The program

will provide access to a camp for children who would not otherwise

have the opportunity.



The City of Yorkton Leisure Services received $5,000 for a Summer

Funspots' program. This will provide summer morning recreation

programs for children six to eight years of age.



The Saskatchewan Abilities Council - Yorkton branch received

$3,000 for a summer fun project for children with disabilities.

The project will provide participants with the opportunity to

take part in a variety of recreational activities within the

community.



The Boys and Girls Club of Yorkton received $5,000 for a summer

evening fun program. The program will provide arts, crafts and

field trips for children and youth in the evenings.



The Parkland Early Childhood Intervention Program received $3,000

for a special summer program. Children between the ages of five

and 12 will take part in swimming, bowling, trail hikes, mini

golf and reading and writing activities.



The Parkland Regional Recreation Association received $3,000 for

a travelling summer funspot project. Arts, crafts, co-operative

games, music and drama will be offered to children aged five to

twelve in various Parkland communities.



Pre-School Playland - SIGN (Society for the Involvement of Good

Neighbours) received $3,200 for Taking Time for Parents'. This

series of workshops will be provided for parents while their

children are participating in the playland activities. Topics

including nutrition, child development and balancing work and

families will presented.



Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from

Casino Regina, the Gold Eagle Casino, North Battleford, the

Northern Lights Casino, Prince Albert and the Painted Hand

Casino, Yorkton.
