Released on July 15, 1998
Health Minister Clay Serby today announced that a public administrator
has been appointed to assume the management of Heritage Manor in
Kindersley.
The board of the 80 bed special care home announced its resignation on
June 22. The municipalities responsible for Kindersley Senior Care
Inc. have not appointed a new board.
"As Minister of Health, it's my responsibility to ensure the continued
provision of safe, quality care at Heritage Manor," Serby said. "I
have full confidence in the abilities of the health care professionals
providing this care to residents. In order to support them, I must
take this necessary step and appoint a public administrator."
Vern McClelland will begin serving as public administrator
immediately. McClelland, who's from Maidstone, brings many years of
health-related experience to the job. He will assume the authority
previously held by the board of Kindersley Senior Care Inc. This
includes ensuring the provision of quality care and managing the
assets of the corporation.
McClelland will also work with the parties involved, including member
municipalities and the Prairie West Health District, to try and reach
a long-term solution.
"I'm confident that all the partners will work together to
resolve their outstanding issues and ensure that residents of
Heritage Manor continue to receive the best quality care
possible," Serby said.
Authority for the Minister of Health to appoint a public
administrator is outlined in The Health Districts Act.
