UKRAINIAN CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM PREMIER ROMANOW

Released on January 7, 1998

Premier Roy Romanow today issued a Christmas message to Saskatchewan's

Ukrainian community.

"This Wednesday, Jan. 7 is Christmas Day for those who celebrate this

time of year according to the Julian calendar. It's wonderful to see

that a large number of Saskatchewan residents still keep their

heritage alive through traditional celebrations.

"Like many in the Ukrainian community, I am proud to celebrate both my

Ukrainian and Canadian heritage.

"This is a very special and spiritual time for followers of the Julian

calendar and their families and friends. It is a time to renew the

spirit of goodwill and to look forward to the new year with optimism.

"On behalf of my wife, Eleanore, our families and my colleagues in the

Government of Saskatchewan, I wish each of you a holiday season filled

with love, happiness and hope."
