CASINO FUNDS TO HELP TURTLEFORD CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Released on February 10, 1998

Lloydminster MLA Violet Stanger, on behalf of Municipal Government

Minister Carol Teichrob, today presented the Turtleford School

Division with $10,000 in casino profits through the Associated

Entities Fund to establish a Teen Age Peer Support program.

"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a

portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people,"

Stanger said. "Since 1997, more than $750,000 in casino profits have

been distributed, throughout Saskatchewan, for programs that support

children, youth and families."

The Teen Age Peer Support program will provide young people with a

safe and structured environment that emphasizes healthy lifestyle

choices and promotes self-esteem. Participants will also help one

another to understand why some youth choose high risk behaviour.

The Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from

Casino Regina; the Gold Eagle Casino, North Battleford; the Northern

Lights Casino, Prince Albert; and the Painted Hand Casino, Yorkton.

Stanger said the Associated Entities Fund provides grants to community

organizations for programs and services that support children, youth

and families.
