CASINO FUNDS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO YORKTON AREA COMMUNITY GROUPS

Released on December 21, 1998

Education Minister Clay Serby, on behalf of Municipal Affairs, Culture

and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob, today announced that two Yorkton

area community groups have received $11,000 in casino profits through

the Associated Entities Fund.

"The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a

portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people,"

Serby said. "Since the beginning of 1997 more than $3 million in

casino profits have been distributed throughout Saskatchewan for

programs that support children, youth and families."

Yorkton Big Brothers and Sisters Inc. received $8,000 for an in-school

mentorship program. The Yorkton Child Action Committee and the

Yorkton School Division are partnering to provide this program for

school age children. By matching children with adult mentors this

program will provide opportunities for children to strengthen their

self-esteem and gain a positive view of their experiences in school.

The Zone 4 Sport Council received $3,000 for Winter Basketball

Experience. A winter basketball program will be available for youth

ages 11 - 13 in the communities of Sturgis, Norquay, Esterhazy, Canora

and Kamsack.

Associated Entities Fund receives a portion of the profits from

Casino Regina, the Gold Eagle Casino, North Battleford, the

Northern Lights Casino, Prince Albert and the Painted Hand

Casino, Yorkton.
