PUBLIC MEETING TO FOCUS ON LA RONGE LAND USE PLAN

Released on April 17, 1998

A public meeting to discuss local land use planning issues will be

held at 7 p.m., April 29, 1998 at the La Ronge Legion Hall.

A local advisory board is developing a plan to set overall management

objectives and guidelines for development in a 400 square kilometre

corridor along Highway 2, from Highway 165 junction north to the

Nemeiben River.

The advisory board, with representatives from government departments,

First Nations, local communities and stakeholder groups from the area,

has come together to guide the process and to develop recommendations

for the integrated land use plan. The public meeting will provide an

opportunity for board members and all interested parties to identify

and discuss issues. Issues already brought forward include caribou

habitat protection, gravel quarries and highway concerns.

The meeting will follow an open house format, with brief

presentations about the process, history and issues. Anyone with

concerns, or simply an interest in how these lands are used, is

encouraged to attend.
