A new series of Saskatchewan made prefabricated homes was announced
today in Gifu City, Japan by Deputy Premier Dwain Lingenfelter. The
'Big Field' series of 2 x 4 (western style) maple homes was jointly
developed by NuFab Building Products and Seino Kensetsu Co. Ltd.
Seino Kensetsu is a major customer of NuFab and is in the forefront of
promoting Canadian built housing in Japan.
"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Seino Kensetsu
and Nu-Fab on selling 100 homes since the initiation of the model
house program one year ago," Lingenfelter said. "It is my pleasure to
announce on their behalf that a major campaign will be launched to
promote this innovative new series of homes."
The 'Big Field' series of homes will include basements which are
unusual in Japanese homes. They will also offer flexible designs that
will enable families to alter their homes to meet changing needs as
they mature from newlyweds to seniors with married children living at
home.
NuFab President Russell Muzyka joined with Seino Kensetsu President
Somiya to provide a description of the new housing project.
Mr. Muzyka also presented Seino Kensetsu with a set of
three-dimensional drawings which will be used to promote the project.
The Saskatchewan trade mission led by Mr. Lingenfelter also met
with Minokyu Co. Ltd. and Yuasa Trading Co. Minokyu is a
Japanese mustard seed processor and Yuasa is a trading company
which has been importing mustard seed from Humboldt Flour Mills
since 1994.
The Deputy Premier announced following the meeting that Minokyu
has purchased four acres of land in Humboldt. Minokyu, Yuasa,
and Humboldt Flour mills have conducted a feasibility study and
are exploring the viability of establishing a mustard seed
processing plant.
"We told the Minokyu and Yuasa officials that we would welcome
their investment in our province," Lingenfelter said. "We
pointed out that, with 80 per cent of Canada's mustard seed
production, Saskatchewan is the best location for a mustard
processing facility."
The Saskatchewan trade mission will take part in the
Kansai-Canada West Business Forum in Kobe on Friday.
Mr. Lingenfelter will participate with Premier Filmon of Manitoba
and Deputy Premier Miller of British Columbia in the Leader's
Forum.
