Municipal Government Minister Carol Teichrob, today announced the
provincial government will provide $85,000 to the 1998 Canadian
Women's Curling Championship, the Scott Tournament of Hearts. This
event is being held in Regina February 21 to March 1, 1998.
"The Scott Tournament of Hearts is expected to attract 5,000 to 7,000
visitors to the City of Regina, with an estimated economic spin-off of
between $5 and $7 million dollars," Teichrob said. "Saskatchewan has
a long history of hosting major sporting events which have provided
economic benefits to the province."
"We're very excited and pleased with the financial support from the
provincial government because this will be the largest Scott
Tournament ever held," said Bernadette McIntyre, President of the 1998
Scott Tournament of Hearts. "This is wonderful support to the hundreds
of tireless Saskatchewan volunteers who have already put in thousands
of hours to make this a successful event."
"The Scott Tournament of Hearts is a first-class, national sporting
event and supports youth curling across Saskatchewan," Teichrob said.
