PROVINCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE SCOTT TOURNAMENT OF HEARTS ANNOUNCED

Municipal Government Minister Carol Teichrob, today announced the

provincial government will provide $85,000 to the 1998 Canadian

Women's Curling Championship, the Scott Tournament of Hearts. This

event is being held in Regina February 21 to March 1, 1998.



"The Scott Tournament of Hearts is expected to attract 5,000 to 7,000

visitors to the City of Regina, with an estimated economic spin-off of

between $5 and $7 million dollars," Teichrob said. "Saskatchewan has

a long history of hosting major sporting events which have provided

economic benefits to the province."



"We're very excited and pleased with the financial support from the

provincial government because this will be the largest Scott

Tournament ever held," said Bernadette McIntyre, President of the 1998

Scott Tournament of Hearts. "This is wonderful support to the hundreds

of tireless Saskatchewan volunteers who have already put in thousands

of hours to make this a successful event."



"The Scott Tournament of Hearts is a first-class, national sporting

event and supports youth curling across Saskatchewan," Teichrob said.
