MARINA AT SASKATCHEWAN LANDING PROVINCIAL PARK OFFICIALLY OPENS

Released on July 28, 1997

Environment and Resource Management Minister Lorne Scott today

officially opened the Omache Bay marina at Saskatchewan Landing

Provincial Park.

This $1.5 million, three-year project is part of the

Canada-Saskatchewan Infrastructure Works Program.

"The Infrastructure Works Program is an excellent opportunity to

enhance our existing leisure and recreation opportunities," Scott

said. "This first-class facility, which is one of the best in the

parks system, will be enjoyed by Saskatchewan residents and visitors

alike for years to come."

The marina, complete with a service dock, contains 55 slips and a

four-lane boat launch. Complete boat rental services and water sport

facility rental services are also available.

Speaking on behalf of Ron J. Duhamel, Secretary of State for Western

Economic Diversification and minister responsible for implementation

of the infrastructure program in Western Canada, Natural Resources

Minister Ralph Goodale said: "This important tourism infrastructure

project demonstrates the co-operation of the federal and provincial

government to enhance the Saskatchewan tourism infrastructure,

creating opportunities for local, national and international tourism.

"The project also demonstrates the diversity of the

Infrastructure Works Program which has contributed to

technological, municipal and sector-based infrastructure across

the province of Saskatchewan."

"Projects like the Omache Bay marina demonstrate the provincial

government's commitment to building for the future, for

prosperity and jobs," Carol Teichrob, minister responsible for

the Canada-Saskatchewan Infrastructure Agreement said. "The

Infrastructure Works Program is an investment in workers,

contractors, suppliers and, in particular, the people of

Saskatchewan who have received numerous benefits from the

infrastructure program."

To date, more than $295 million has been invested in Saskatchewan

infrastructure projects while creating more than 5,200 short-term

jobs.

The Canada-Saskatchewan Infrastructure Works Program was extended

recently to provide another $34 million in additional new

investments in Saskatchewan's infrastructure.
