FARMERS URGED TO USE FORAGE LISTING SERVICE

Released on February 6, 1997

Agriculture and Food Minister Eric Upshall today urged producers with
excess forage or feed grains to list with the Feed Grain and Forage
Listing Service to help producers who run short of feed for their
livestock.

"This winter's extreme weather has forced livestock operations to use
more feed," Upshall said. "Heavy snowfall has also created
difficulties for some livestock producers in accessing supplies. As a
result, some producers are running short of feed. If producers are
unable to locate sufficient supplies to carry through until spring they
may be forced to sell stock."

Upshall also urged producers who are in need of feed to contact the
listing service for potential supplies.

The listing service can be contacted by phoning, 1-800-667-7564
toll-free, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. The information on
available supplies is compiled monthly and published, with copies sent
to Saskatchewan rural municipal offices and Rural Service Centres. The
information is also on Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food's Internet
home page: http://www.gov.sk.ca/agfood under Statistics.

Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food's Feed Grain and Forage Listing
Service provides a central location for producers to list their feed,
forage and custom services and obtain information on available
supplies.
