SASKTEL OPENS BUSINESS CENTER AT SASKATOON AIRPORT

Released on August 29, 1997

Municipal Government Minister Carol Teichrob today officially opened

the SaskTel Business Center at the John G. Diefenbaker Airport in

Saskatoon.

"The SaskTel Business Center will offer today's business traveller a

facility and advanced communications services unmatched by any other

Canadian airport," Teichrob said. "The center will showcase SaskTel

and Saskatchewan's position on the leading edge of communications

development and customer service."

"Through the center, SaskTel will offer travellers the essentials of

today's business world - the computer, the telephone and the copier,"

Garry Simons, SaskTel group vice-president Operations, said. "They

will have quick and immediate access to everything from pay phones and

fax machines, to cellular phones and the Internet."

Initially, the services offered at the SaskTel Business center are:

Millennium Pay phones; a QuickChange Stored Value Card Vending

Machine; a Canon coin-operated copier; a Canon facsimile and SaskTel

Mobility Cellular rental. The center also provides limited access to

the Internet, through Sympatico Internet service, as well as a

demonstration of SimpliCity Interactive Services. SaskTel's business

partners in the center are Danka Business Systems and Advantage

Cellular Systems.

"The airport is very pleased and fortunate to be working with

SaskTel to provide such a first-class facility," Bill Restall,

manager, John G. Diefenbaker Airport said. "We feel that the

SaskTel Business Center will give the travelling public the wide

variety of business services they have requested. We keep being

asked when it will be opening, which just reinforces the need and

expectation for this type of facility."

"During our recent public hearings, one thing our government

heard was that Saskatchewan Crown Corporations must not only

expand outside our provincial borders, but also continue to

invest in Saskatchewan," Teichrob said. "This center is an

investment in Saskatoon and in Saskatchewan."

SaskTel is the leading full service communications company in

Saskatchewan, providing voice, data, internet, text and messaging

services over a fiber optic-based, 100 per cent digital network,

as well as cellular, paging and FleetNet 800 service through its

SaskTel Mobility division.
