SALE OF MOOSE JAW WILD ANIMAL PARK LANDS

Released on April 21, 1997

Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management today announced that

the province has agreed to sell the lands formerly used for the Moose

Jaw Wild Animal Park to the City of Moose Jaw.

The Moose Jaw Wild Animal Park was closed in September 1995 after three

consecutive lessees were unable to operate the park as a viable

business. The park had been leased to private operators since 1988 and

for several years prior to then the department had operated it at a

loss.

The city and the department have reached an agreement where the land,

amounting to approximately 540 acres, will be sold to the city for $1

provided the city is responsible for decommissioning the park and

restoring the land. The province has agreed to provide a $50,000 grant

to the city to assist with this work.

"With the sale of this property the province will enable the site to be

decommissioned at minimal costs to the people of Saskatchewan and the

City of Moose Jaw will gain land for future development," Bob

McEachern, Manager of Commercial Services said.
