SERM AND PARCS SIGN AGREEMENT

Released on October 25, 1996

Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management (SERM) and the
Provincial Association of Resort Communities of Saskatchewan (PARCS)
entered into a Memorandum of Understanding today at the PARCS annual
meeting in Saskatoon.

Through this agreement, both parties agree to maintain a working
relationship of information sharing, discussion and consultation on
issues that relate to sustainable resource management and environmental
stewardship. Some of the issues of interest include treaty land
entitlement, co-management, fisheries and lakeshore management and
development.

"The long-term social and economic stability of Saskatchewan depends on
sustainable use and integrated management of renewable resources and a
healthy environment," Environment Minister Lorne Scott said. "It is in
the common interests of SERM and PARCS to protect, conserve, preserve
and enhance renewable resources, habitats and ecosystems of the
environment for cottagers and all Saskatchewan residents."

PARCS and SERM have co-operated on several projects, including
lakefront management workshops and fish habitat workshops for the last
two years. PARCS is an umbrella group that represents over 30,000
cottage owners from resort communities across the province.
