EXEMPLARY CORRECTIONS SERVICE HONOURED

Released on May 27, 1996

Lt.-Gov. Jack Wiebe and Deputy Justice Minister Brent Cotter today
recognized 19 men and women for career achievements in the provincial
and federal correctional services.

Sixteen men and women received Exemplary Service Medals commemorating
at least 20 years of distinguished service with the Corrections Branch
of Saskatchewan Justice or the Correctional Service of Canada. Three
previous medal recipients received Exemplary Service Bars, recognizing
an additional decade of service.

Saskatchewan Justice 1996 honourees are: Jim Wenzel, Leonard Shutko,
Johannes Van Der Laan, Barry Schrader and Elmer Miazga from the Prince
Albert Correctional Centre; David Ryan from the Regina Correctional
Centre; Terry Nimetz from the Regina Community-Training Residence;
Garth King from Regina-Qu'Appelle Community Operations; and Harvey
Skrudland from the Prince Albert Community-Training Residence.

Correctional Service of Canada 1996 honourees are: Blaine Harper,
Raymond Brunning, Edward Buck, Jerry Hulowski, Gordon Kelly and Gordon
Wilkinson from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert; Dr.
Lucinda Presse from the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon; Bill
Blair and Bob Hayes from the Riverbend Institution; and Mel Auten from
Regional Headquarters in Saskatoon.

Recipients of Corrections Exemplary Service Awards must have worked for
at least 10 years in a correctional institution, parole or probation
office, demonstrating good conduct and displaying excellence and
devotion to duty.

The awards were established in 1984 to recognize the hazardous
conditions faced by peace officers working with offenders.
