WESTJET CONGRATULATED ON INAUGURAL FLIGHT TO SASKATCHEWAN

Released on June 13, 1996

Deputy Premier and Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter
today congratulated WestJet Airlines Ltd. on the start of its
commercial flight service to Saskatchewan.

"I am pleased WestJet has chosen to expand into Regina, and create
employment here," Lingenfelter said. "This new service will give
Saskatchewan travellers added choice and convenience."

"We've had an overwhelming demand through our reservations centre from
people who want to fly in and out of Saskatchewan," Clive Beddoe,
Chairman and CEO of WestJet said. "We have responded accordingly, and
are thrilled to be able to bring low fares into the province of
Saskatchewan."

WestJet's first flight to Saskatchewan touched down in Regina this
afternoon. The company is initially offering one daily round-trip
flight between Edmonton and Regina. In Edmonton, Regina passengers
will be able to make connections with WestJet flights to Calgary,
Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria. One-way fares range from $69 to $149
for the Regina to Edmonton flight, while Regina to Victoria ranges from
$119 to $209.

"In addition to providing Saskatchewan people with increased air travel
options, we are pleased that WestJet has created 10 jobs in Regina,"
Lingenfelter said. "This is exactly the kind of economic activity and
job creation we've been encouraging under our Partnership for Growth
economic strategy."

WestJet is a privately owned company based in Calgary, with 250
employees throughout western Canada. It began commercial flight
service in February, and has since carried more than 150,000
passengers. WestJet's three Boeing 737 jets can carry 120 passengers
each. They make a total of 152 flights per week.
