LINGENFELTER PARTICIPATING IN CAN-AM GAMES BID

Released on February 16, 1996

Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter will be part of the team
bidding for Regina to host the 1998 Cam-Am Police and Fire Games. The
Regina delegation will present the city's proposal to the Can-Am games
bid committee February 17, in Kennewick, Washington.

"I'm excited about the potential of Regina and Saskatchewan playing host
to yet another major sporting event," Lingenfelter said. "The Grey Cup
demonstrated what such an event can mean to the city and province both in
terms of our economy and community spirit."

The Regina bid committee estimates the event would attract between 1,500
to 2,000 participants, generating millions of dollars in direct and
spinoff economic activity.

The Can-Am Police and Fire Games are held annually, featuring more than
40 sporting events, ranging from target shooting to track and field.

Lingenfelter will be part of a delegation headed up by Regina lawyer Dick
Rendek, and supported by representatives of local fire, police and RCMP
members as well as civic and business leaders.

Following his participation in the Can-Am Games bid, the minister will
continue on to Nicaragua where he will meet with a number of senior
representatives of the Nicaraguan government including President Violeta
de Chamorro; Rainiero Romero, Director of Mines and Carlos Abuanza,
Director of Natural Resources, Ministry of the Economy; and Alejandro
Lainez, Director of Forestry.

Lingenfelter will also participate in the signing of a joint-venture
agreement between the Meadow Lake Tribal Council and Miskito Indians of
Nicaragua near the town of Puerto Cabeza. The agreement will be a
commitment to study the feasibility of developing joint-venture
opportunities involving forestry, mining and minerals, oil and natural
gas.

In addition, Lingenfelter will meet with the Canadian Ambassador to
discuss the potential for other opportunities for Saskatchewan in the
Central American region, particularly in telecommunications, energy,
forestry, mining and agriculture.
