WESTJET EXPANSION TO CREATE JOBS IN SASKATOON

Released on August 15, 1996

Deputy Premier and Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter
today said the expansion of WestJet Airlines Ltd.'s commercial flight
service to Saskatoon is good news for travellers and for the economy.

"I am pleased to see that WestJet has expanded its Saskatchewan service
to Saskatoon," Lingenfelter said. "The lower fares offered by WestJet
will make business and personal travel more affordable and accessible
to residents of the northern half of the province.

"I am also pleased that WestJet has brought 10 jobs to Saskatoon. This
is exactly the kind of economic activity and job creation we've been
encouraging under our Partnership for Economic Growth strategy. We're
glad we've been able to help create the climate for WestJet expansion
into our province by reducing the aviation fuel tax."

"We have had tremendous success since our introduction into the Regina
market in June, due to the obvious support from the citizens of
Saskatchewan," said Clive Beddoe, chairman and CEO of WestJet. "We
feel that the addition of Saskatoon to our route will also be a great
success."

Travellers from Saskatoon will be offered one round-trip flight to
Calgary daily, Monday to Saturday. Two round-trip flights between
Saskatoon and Calgary will be offered on Sundays. In Calgary,
Saskatoon passengers will be able to make connections with WestJet
flights to Edmonton, Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria.

One-way fares range from $59 to $139 for the Saskatoon to Calgary
flight, while Saskatoon to Victoria flights range from $119 to $209.

WestJet is a privately-owned company based in Calgary, with 300
employees throughout Western Canada, including 10 in Saskatoon and 10
in Regina. It began commercial service in February and has flown more
than 250,000 passengers.
