Deputy Premier and Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter
said today the grand opening of the Nu-Fab Building Products Ltd.
plant expansion in Regina is good news for Saskatchewan because of the
jobs and economic activity that will be created over the coming years.
The $1-million expansion is expected to create an additional 40 full-
time manufacturing jobs, bringing the total number of jobs to 70 at the
Regina plant.
"This expansion is an investment in the future of our province," said
Lingenfelter, who took part in today's grand opening ceremonies. "This
plant is the kind of value-added processing that will help ensure the
future prosperity of Saskatchewan. It is also a positive reflection on
the Saskatchewan business climate that shows Saskatchewan companies
like Nu-Fab, can and do compete very successfully in the global
marketplace."
Nu-Fab uses state of the art equipment to manufacture pre-fabricated
houses, most of which are for export all around the world, including
one shipment which is now ready for export to Japan.
The export market is critical for Saskatchewan. Exports account for
one job in every three, and about 40 per cent of the annual gross
domestic product. Every year Saskatchewan exports about $1-billion
worth of products. That is about $11,300 for every person in the
province.
"The Saskatchewan economy continues to expand and diversify, and
companies like Nu-Fab are a large part of the reason why," Lingenfelter
said. "It is an excellent example of the type of export-oriented
business envisioned in the province's Partnership for Growth economic
strategy."
