Released on April 18, 1996
Saskatchewan Justice today announced that the department and Ron
Sterling have agreed to terminate their employer - employee
relationship and have negotiated a severance package.
Saskatchewan Justice reinstated Sterling to his position with the
Corrections Division in February, 1994, after he was acquitted of
criminal charges. Negotiations between Sterling and Justice officials
were then initiated to determine terms of employment including location
and duties.
When negotiations reached an impasse, Sterling and Justice officials
agreed to participate in mediation. As a result of the mediation
process, Sterling and the provincial government have agreed to terms
upon which their employment relationship will be ended.
Sterling will receive severance in the amount of $65,130. The amount
is calculated based upon the government's guidelines for severance for
government employees.
