NOMINATION FORMS FOR DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD ELECTIONS AVAILABLE

Released on September 7, 1995

Nomination forms for candidates desiring to run for district health
board elections on October 25, will be available from the returning
officer for each health district as of September 13.

Candidates for the elections must be:

þ 18 years of age or more as of October 25, 1995;
þ a Canadian citizen;
þ a Saskatchewan resident for six months or more immediately
preceding election day; and,
þ a resident of the health district in which they are seeking
election.

Candidates are asked to provide name, address and occupation, as well
as the signatures of 10 nominators. These nominators must be eligible
to vote in the ward in which the candidate is seeking election. A
refundable $100 deposit is required of all candidates.

Persons not eligible for election to the district health board include:
judges; declared candidates in a coming federal or provincial election;
Saskatchewan MLAs or MPs; and district health board chief executive
officers (or any other employee designated to act in their place),
auditors or lawyers of the board.

Nomination papers are available from the health district returning
officer and will be received during regular office hours September 27
to October 4. Nominations close at 4 p.m., October 4, 1995.

After the election, all candidates will be required to file a statement
of their election expenses and contributions. The limit on each
candidate's election expenses is $10,000.

These seminars, conducted by district health board election staff, will
deal with: election regulations, qualification and nomination
procedures; election expenses and contributions; candidate's
responsibilities; agent's roll; and liaison with returning officers.

District health boards have been set up to provide comprehensive health
services for residents of each health district. Each district is
divided into eight wards, with one board member to be elected in each
ward.

These boards help to ensure district residents have access to a wide
range of illness prevention and medical care services as well as
community, mental health, therapy and health promotion services.
District health boards are responsible for community health centres,
hospitals, special care homes, home care and ambulance operations.
