Environment and Resource Management Minister Berny Wiens today
announced approval of expansion plans at the Cypress Four Seasons
Resort in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.
The department reviews all construction proposals on park land to
ensure they meet department standards for developments in provincial
parks.
"Leasing park land for suitable commercial facilities helps develop our
parks to their fullest potential and strengthen our tourism industry,"
Wiens said. The existing 31-room lodge, which opened in 1987, is
privately owned and operated and was constructed on leased park land.
The expansion plan includes enlarging the lodge's dining and convention
area by increasing seating capacity by an additional 140 people.
Construction also includes 10 new condominium-style rental units, two
of which will be accessible to persons with disabilities.
In addition to handling more visitors during the peak summer season,
these improvements will allow the operation to service larger meetings
and conventions than in the past.
The development is expected to result in approximately eight
person-years of construction employment and six additional full and
part-time operating positions.
"Aside from its many economic benefits, these improvements will provide
Saskatchewan residents and tourists with a better year-round resort
facility," Wiens said.
Construction is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed by next
summer.
