CREIGHTON ASSURED OF WATER SUPPLY

Released on October 12, 1995

Municipal Government Minister Ed Tchorzewski and Associate Minister of
Education, Training and Employment Keith Goulet, MLA for Cumberland
House, today announced residents in the northwest community of
Creighton have been assured of an adequate water supply this winter.

More than 1,600 residents were faced with a water shortage this winter
due to the low water level in Douglas Lake, the community's source of
supply.

Goulet said water will be pumped from nearby Bootleg Lake,
approximately 700 meters in an over-land pipe at a rate of one million
gallons a day until freeze-up.

"It won't be known until spring if the run-off will raise the water
level in Douglas Lake enough to meet the needs of the community next
year, but it's a relief to know people in the community will have a
good supply of water this winter," Goulet said. The pipeline will
remain in place until local and provincial officials can determine
whether the community has enough water for long term use.

It cost an estimated $322,800 to install the system with $255,000
provided by Municipal Government's Northern Water and Sewer Upgrading
Grant Program and the remainder by the town.

Flegel Construction of Saskatoon was awarded the tender for the
project.
