Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter today announced that
an agreement has been reached with CIBC regarding recruitment and
training for the bank's new telephone banking centre in Regina.
"This call centre will create the equivalent of 500 full-time jobs in
Saskatchewan when it is fully operational," Lingenfelter said.
"Saskatchewan people are looking for quality jobs and quality training
and this centre will provide both."
Saskatchewan workers will receive computer, telephone and sales
training as the first phase of employment in the call centre.
Saskatchewan will provide $6,800 toward recruitment, salary and
training costs for each new full-time-equivalent position created, to a
maximum of 500.
"The CIBC telephone banking centre will be a major new employer for the
City of Regina," Lingenfelter said. "Besides the hundreds of jobs it
will create, there will also be significant spin-off benefits for the
city and the provincial economy as a whole.
"These jobs will also pay above entry-level wages, so they'll appeal to
our educated young people who are looking for a chance to put their
knowledge to work."
The call centre will provide CIBC's customers with around-the-clock
telephone banking services. It will be an integral part of CIBC's
telephone banking capability moving into the future.
The first phase of recruitment for jobs at the Regina call centre is
expected to begin over the next few weeks. The expected start-up date
for the centre is July 1, 1996.
