CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON MCCLEAN LAKE URANIUM PROJECT

Released on March 16, 1995

Premier Roy Romanow joined officials of Cogema Resources Inc. today to
announce that construction will begin immediately on the McClean Lake
uranium mine and mill in northeastern Saskatchewan.

The McClean Lake project will involve the construction of a
$250-million mine and mill 350 kilometres north of La Ronge and will
employ more than 250 people in the construction phase. Romanow said
the project is an important step in opening up northern job
opportunities.

"When the McClean Lake project starts operating in 1997 it will provide
approximately 260 full-time jobs," Romanow said. "About 60 per cent of
those jobs are expected to go to northerners."

Romanow said initiatives such as McClean Lake provide a foundation for
ongoing economic development in the North. He said the mining industry
currently employs more than 5,000 people directly, and generates
another 10,000 jobs indirectly.

Romanow said that working with the private sector to increase economic
development opportunities for Saskatchewan people is the government's
top priority.

"As a partner in economic development in the North, the government has
developed, under the Partnership for Renewal strategy, initiatives to
assist northern entrepreneurs and communities to benefit from the
economic activity created by projects such as McClean Lake," Romanow
said. "One such initiative is the Northern Development Fund, which
includes a loan program and core funding for community-based regional
economic development organizations specifically adapted to conditions
in the north.

"The government's economic strategy has three principles. These are
building a better climate for renewal; creating opportunities for all;
and working in partnership with all participants in the economy.
Today's announcement demonstrates that these principles translate into
action and jobs."
