Released on June 16, 1995
Saskatchewan will join other North American jurisdictions in conducting
Road Check '95, a 72-hour truck safety inspection, on June 20, 21, and
22.
Traffic officers from Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation Highway
Transport Patrol, the RCMP, and SGI safety officers will be inspecting
the mechanical fitness of large trucks and the fitness of their drivers
using the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) North American
Standard inspection.
This international program monitors the safety of commercial vehicles
and drivers. The program also raises public awareness of the road
transportation industry and the importance of vehicle and driver
safety.
The first 36 hours of the Road Check '95 inspection will be held at the
Lloydminster inspection station on Highway 16 beginning at midnight
June 20. This will be a co-operative effort by Saskatchewan and
Alberta transport officers.
The second half of the safety check, beginning at noon June 21, will be
held at the Regina South inspection station on Highway 1 and will
conclude at midnight June 22.
At Road Check '94 held at the Estevan and Langham inspection stations,
484 trucks were inspected. Of those, 213 were found in good mechanical
condition, 237 had minor defects, and 34 were removed from the road for
major defects.
